Shaun Holloway, a junior strategic communication major, moved from Camarillo, California to Mobile, Alabama to find his place at USA. Holloway enjoys being involved in providing a positive experience to other students at USA.

Holloway said his favorite experiences at USA include helping students find their place on campus. He is a Jagpal, a student who helps a professor teach a freshman experience class. Freshman experience freshman and transfer students to life at USA.

“I figured it out early, so I want to help other students find their place,” Holloway said.

Holloway hopes to eventually work in education, specifically something related to student affairs.

Holloway isn’t waiting until graduation to persue his dream of working in student affairs; he has been involved with SGA for three years. He became a member of the First Year Council his freshman year. He then went on to serve as a senator for the college of arts and sciences and chairman of FYC his sophomore year.

FYC is a group of first-year student leaders seeking to improve the first-year student experience at USA, according to the FYC website.

Holloway is now the current SGA chief of staff. Holloway’s duties include acting as a liaison to the SGA cabinet and assisting SGA President Carl Thomas, Jr. Part of Holloway’s SGA duties include serving on the Student Teams Advocating Realistic Solutions committee where he helps plan for events, such as Higher Education day.

Higher Education Day is an annual event held in Montgomery, Alabama to support the value of Higher Education, according to higheredpartners.org. Higher Education Day will be held on Feb. 22, 2018.

Holloway also serves as a leader in other student organization at USA such as the African-American Student Association and American Advertising Federation.

As marketing director for AASA, Holloway said he primarily helps with getting information about events out to the student community. Holloway also said he utilizes his knowledge of campus policies and inner workings to help AASA. Holloway also serves as vice president of AAF where he helps organize the group and activities, such as the group’s upcoming trip to Atlanta, Georgia.

Holloway said he plans to continue to serve in leadership positions around campus.
